Many of our winter sports teams have begun their programmes, preparing our students for Term 2. We want as many students as possible to take the opportunity to play a team sport.
We have teams across various sports for all skill levels, from premiere teams to more socially oriented ones. We want our students to enjoy team sport, fitness, and skill development because we believe sport plays a vital role in enabling them to be the best they can be.
Our basketball, netball, rugby, and football teams have started practices and training over the past couple of weeks, giving us a good indication of the talent at our school. Our teams will be ready come term 2 to compete against other teams.
Physical activity and playing school sports have a strong link with academic success. It allows students to balance the reward of success with the manawanui of reflection and recovery after a loss. That's why we encourage participation in sport, even if it's just muck-around lunchtime sport.
If you're a student at Waitākere College, take this positive opportunity.
