Jane Coup Deputy Principal
“I started teaching over 20 years ago, 10 of those years have been here at Waitakere College.
Previously, I worked at Avondale College where I was a Dean of 550 students for their senior years at high school. From there, I moved to Mount Roskill Grammar school as the Head of Biology. It was at this time that I went on maternity leave and had my first two children. It was also a time in my life we moved to Vietnam and lived there for two years.
When I returned to New Zealand, I joined Waitakere College as a Science teacher. In my time at Waitakere College, I have initiated and led the Medical Science Academy which has supported many Maori and Pasifika students through senior sciences and into health careers. I have also been the Head of Science for over 5 years. Last year I was Acting Deputy Principal while Ants Cotton was away on sabbatical. I currently chair the Health and Safety committee, am on the Professional Learning committee and am the staff representative on the Board of Trustees.
We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges. In this role, I promise to help build a positive school environment that challenges students to grow to their full potential.”
