This year we held the inaugural Waitakere College Intra-school basketball tournament, due to the increasing number of students who want to play basketball each year. The tournament was a huge success with a total of 14 teams entered!

There were three divisions in total; Open Boys, Open Girls and Junior Girls. Teams played a round robin of matches over 7-8 weeks finishing with a finals night. Games were both enjoyable and competitive.

Congratulations to the following teams were the Competition Winners:
Open Girls: JAZZ
Open Boys: RAPTORS
Junior Boys: MAVERICKS
Best dressed team: WARRIORS (Team image above)

From the Intra-school competition, a tournament team was then selected from each grade. These teams then played matches against the school teams, while the junior boys tournament team played against the staff all star team. This all happened on Thursday night, in what was a real festival of basketball in the school gymnasium.  

The Intra School Tournament Team games on the evening were;

All Star Staff Team VS Junior Boys - Staff won 44 - 36
U17 A Boys vs Open Boys - Tournament Team won 29 - 27
Open Girls A vs Open Girls - Tournament Team won 55 - 45
Junior Boys A vs U17 Boys A - U17A boys won 46 - 29

Well done to all students who were involved in making this a thoroughly enjoyable competition.
A big thank you goes to the referees, particularly students Taine Tristram-Hurman and Tevita Tuitupou and to Jacqueline Nuuausala-Frost who was the score bench official for every game!.
Finally a massive thank you and well done to Mr. Stevens and Miss Tai Tin for their organisation of the event and for the late nights in the gym making sure each night was a success.

Basketball was the winner on the day.
