Ramadan and Eid Library Display

A group of students from our Waitākere College Islamic Society created a beautiful display for Ramadan and Eid in the library. They have shared some family treasures from around the world. Students can read about the Islamic faith and colour pictures of Ramadan in the library.

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Muslim world, when people fast during daylight hours (no food OR drink). They fast, worship, do acts of service, gather in community, and develop spiritually. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. It's the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which follows the phases of the moon. This means the dates of Ramadan change each year. The month starts when the new crescent moon is visible in the night sky. The feast of Eid el Fitr happens at the end of Ramadan (the festival of breaking the fast). It is the joyous occasion that marks the end of Ramadan. People share food and drinks with their neighbours and give gifts to the poor.

Ramadan Mubarak!
