Have you heard of Kauri dieback disease?
Have you heard about the rāhui placed over the Waitākere Ranges to protect our mighty kauri trees?
This year in 11APD our emerging artists are putting their photography and design skills on the line to help do good in your hood! Our class aim is to raise public awareness about the important mahi being done by Te Kawerau a Maki and the Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland City Council) to prevent the spread of the soil-borne pathogen Phytophthora Agathidicida (PA) aka Kauri dieback.
On Tuesday the 4th of March, both 11APD classes embarked on a field trip to the Arataki Visitor Centre. The trip was described by our student voice as “inspiring and enriching” and “worth it”. Our young artists were equipped with cameras, drawing materials, an array of coloured cards and snacks provided by the school (thank you!). The artists spent the morning gathering incredible photographs to inspire their upcoming designs (watch this space!). In the afternoon session, our team of young artists were able to complete some quick sketches and some beautifully deconstructed flora and fauna arrangements.
Please look forward to seeing some of the beautiful artworks these artists plan to produce and display publicly at a time and place TBD during term three.
