Kākahu recently competed in the NZ Aria at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre in Rotorua on October 31st. Facing off against 92 talented singers over three days, Kākahu took the stage in six categories, securing top-three finishes in four:
13 and Under 16 Years
- Traditional – 1st place
- Own Selection – 2nd place
- Light Entertainment – 2nd place
14 and Under 21 Years
- Māori Song (arranged by Kākahu herself as the youngest competitor) – 3rd place
Despite battling a lingering cough and runny nose, Kākahu’s exceptional control and technique captivated the audience. Her rendition of the challenging aria Care Selve was particularly impactful, drawing praise from a senior vocal coach from Auckland University, and sparking interest among pianists and senior performers who were eager to learn more about her.
Kākahu’s time at the competition was inspiring, especially in the company of experienced performers. We’re excited to see where her talents take her next!
