In anticipation of the senior prizegiving on Tuesday, the first basketball game of our "Throwback Throw-Down" competition took place. The 2015 basketball squad faced off against the proposed 2025 team, marking the beginning of a series of matches featuring past teams who are eager to support the current squad in their pursuit of promotion to the big league in 2025. 

The 2015 team included Rapaere Newson, Callum Milne, Zeus Gobenciong, Kerry Zheng, and Nio Sa'u. They were joined by Antonio Aziziyan, the captain of the victorious 2018 team that won the Upper North Island Schick Cup. Current Year 13 players filled out their bench. While the 2015 team emerged as the winners in this matchup, the event celebrated our school’s culture and spirit in sports. The 2025 team had their first opportunity to implement a brand new offence and defence, which resulted in some struggle as they adjusted to the unfamiliar systems. 

Next week, the 2023 squad will compete in the next match of the Legends versus Newcomers series, featuring the 2001 Vintage Valley Vikings.
