Student Activism in Action: Taking on Seymour's Proposed Cuts to the Ka Ora Ka Ako Lunch Programme


Our student led campaign to protest the government's proposed cuts to the Ka Ora Ka Ako Healthy School Lunch Programme has made it into the media.

During the school holidays, Stuff and Spinoff ran articles on how our students are taking on Seymour’s proposed lunch cuts with a social media campaign.

When asked what inspired them to start this campaign, Gabrielle Manuhuia cites her teacher, Ms Thorburn, who introduced the topic of food insecurity to their social studies class and ran an inquiry into the impacts of Ka Ora, Ka Ako, as well as another student, Matilda Otter-Lowe who had previously contacted local MP Phil Twyford about the cuts.
