Waitākere College

Arts & Culture Week Celebrations

Arts and Cultural Week for 2024 was a wonderful celebration of the diversity and talent of our Waitākere College community.

With activities throughout the week such as cultural and dance performances from students, from our Indian cultural group, and blueprint. We also had DJ sets by Whaea Lee and Karaoke with our senior art students. There was delicious food from our Pasifika, Chinese and Filipino communities all led by our students. Students had the ability to learn new skills with Chinese calligraphy workshops, drama club,  harakeke weaving and lolly lei workshops. Those who were into films also were able to attend screenings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Furthermore, on Friday we had students attending school wearing cultural wear, celebrating their own ethnic backgrounds and creating a colourful school environment. The staff also participated in dressing up on Friday, but themed with the letter ‘C’.

Judged by students, the Winning teams were:
1st Place: Visual Art Cave People
2nd Place: Humanities Campers
3rd Place: Performing Arts Clouds

Thank you to all of those who were involved in this week, it could not have been a success without you. Special thanks to the Arts and Cultural Committee and the Student Committee.
