Students Take Action Against Proposed Cuts to Ka Ora Ka Ako School Lunch Programme

A group of our students have voiced concerns over David Seymour’s proposed funding cuts to the Ka Ora Ka Ako school lunch programme. In response, they have launched a social media campaign to raise awareness and oppose the changes, which they fear could lead to increased food insecurity for students across the country.

The initiative began when Year 10 student Matilda Otter-Lowe contacted our local MP, Phil Twyford, to express her apprehension about the cuts. Under the new proposal, starting in 2025, the funding per meal will drop significantly from approximately $8 to just $3. This reduction may affect the quality and nutrition of the hot meals students currently receive.

We are incredibly proud to see our students using their voices to stand up for an important issue that impacts not only themselves but the wider community. You can show your support by following their Instagram campaign HERE and sharing their posts to help spread the word.
