Assessment/Workshop Weeks 8 & 9 - Full Details

In Weeks 8 & 9, we are running various assessments and workshops for all year levels

  • Year 10 and some Senior students will be sitting their Literacy and Numeracy co-requisites over Week 8 and 9 and will have already been informed of this. Year 10s are in week 8 and seniors in week 9.
  • We will also be running a 3-day Assessment/Workshop Period;
Giving all students the opportunity to have extended time for assessments OR workshops in their subjects.
  • The students' portal timetable will reflect the 3 days and in tutor classes, students will be writing out their 3-day Assessment/Workshop Period timetable. The dates and timetable are below.

To run both the Co-requisites and 3-day Assessment/Workshop Period effectively, we are changing the daily timing schedule for both Weeks 8 and 9 mainly affecting Lunch time as shown below in the Assessment timetable. There is no loss in learning time and the start of the day has not changed over the 2 weeks.

NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Week

The way literacy and numeracy for Level 1 NCEA are being assessed has changed. These standards are moving towards being assessed online by a Common Assessment Activity which is a co-requisite for Level 1 NCEA. All Year 10 students who have not already completed these assessments will do so during the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Week between the 16th of September and the 20th of September (Week 9). The assessments will be held on the following dates:

Monday 16th September - Numeracy Assessment

Wednesday 18th September - Reading Assessment

Friday 20th September - Writing Assessment

The assessment is approximately one hour long. Where possible, students will use their own devices. When this is not possible, one will be provided. Students will either go to the hall or the library for their assessment.

Literacy and numeracy skills can be supported at home at any time by:

  • Reading varied texts
  • Using Writer’s Toolbox at home and at school to complete schoolwork
  • Looking at graphs and data in the media and explaining what they mean
  • When at the supermarket, find the better deal between two similar items
  • Talking about what was learnt during the day, focus on Maths and English
  • Using our Words of the Week at home in conversations
  • Go onto Reading Plus and complete the activities - reading comprehension and vocabulary
  • Involve children when measuring food/materials or discussing distances or duration/timing
  • Access practice digital assessments online through the NZQA website
