Our theme for Matariki this year is Whaiaro Whakahou: Renewal and personal growth.
The whole week was celebrated with many activities. On Wednesday morning, the staff gathered early for a shared meal at the Matariki breakfast and had the opportunity to bond with their colleagues. A big thank you to all the staff members who woke up extra early to begin cooking before sunrise.
All departments were given the challenge to design a Pou Whenua Putanga along with the meaning or korero relative to your whetu / star.
For 6 weeks the departments worked on their Pou whenua, the outcome was an impressive display by all departments, their creativity, dedication, and teamwork truly shone through, making this competition an inspiring showcase of our collective spirit and cultural connection in honour of Matariki!
🏆 First Place: Putaiao/Science Department
🥈 Second Place: Te Ao Tangata/Humanities Department
🥉 Third Place: Kaiāwhina/Learning Support
A special mention goes to all participating departments for their outstanding contributions. Each pou whenua tells a unique story, showcasing the diverse talents and deep understanding of our cultural values within our school community and the authentic connections to Matariki! A huge thank you to the Rumaki students as well as several students whose artistic talents were utilised in paintings and designs.
In the Library, students enjoyed Matariki-themed word finders, colouring, stars, and of course a themed display of books to choose from. Students were encouraged to choose a Matariki star and on the back, they wrote their message to a special person or loved one.
By Thursday the library was adorned with the twinkling stars.
We hope our students and whānau come together over the long weekend to relish the time spent together, gaze at the stars, eat delicious kai and enjoy your Matariki celebrations!
