Meeting China's Minister of Education

Last week our TIC of Chinese, Miss Storer received an invitation to represent the Chinese Department at the University of Auckland with the Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China and his delegation on June 14. The event took place on the university's city campus. Dr Danping Wang, Miss Storer's old university professor, selected Miss Storer from her years of success in developing Chinese programs and support for local students to achieve high proficiency in Chinese. Miss Storer was also very humbled to have Waitākere College's very own student, Luka Yelash, present at the conference as well, he’s done wonders in his Chinese Language journey since graduating in 2022!

On the morning of June 14th, Miss Storer had the opportunity to sit down with the Chinese Minister, Dr Huai Jinpeng, and introduce herself as Waitākere College's Chinese teacher and one of the few "foreigner" Chinese teachers. Dr Huai Jinpeng found this very amusing and personally came to shake Miss Storer's hand after the conference and thank her for teaching the Chinese language to the next generation. Teachers are highly regarded in Asian culture as the messengers of wisdom.

Miss Storer was even featured in an article here by Fudan University in Shanghai!

Miss Storer hopes this will encourage further funding for Waitākere College's upcoming senior class trip to Shanghai next year!
