The theme for this year is ‘Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumanai - Serve in love for a blessed future.  The Sāmoan language - Gagana Sāmoa, holds immense cultural and educational value, making its preservation and promotion crucial within our school community. As the linguistic heart of Sāmoa, it carries the rich heritage, traditions, and identity of the Sāmoan people, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among students of Sāmoan descent. 

Encouraging the use and study of Gagana Sāmoa not only supports cultural diversity and inclusion but also enhances cognitive skills, as bilingualism is linked to improved academic performance. 

This week at Waitākere College, we celebrate Sāmoan Language Week through student performances, staff quizzes about Exploring Sāmoa, and a ‘Pronunciation Workshop’ for Staff PLD. In addition, the Y9 Sāmoan class made some Sāmoan crafts that are on display in the school library.
