Waitākere College

Junior Basketball Success and Regional Qualifying Tournament Recap

Basketball has got off to a great start this year! Over the term break, junior players at the college participated in our JR Basketball Camp. More than 30 of our junior players participated in classroom and court sessions aimed at preparing them for the upcoming season! Classroom sessions were dedicated to mental strength, defensive principles, offensive concepts and goal setting. Court sessions saw players progress their fundamental skills and apply them to games!  We are excited to see our juniors utilise their new skills and techniques this season!

Over the term break, the Regional Qualifying tournament was also held at Eventfinda Stadium on the North Shore. A great tournament that features the best of Auckland’s young players competing to secure a place at the National tournament held in Wellington. 6 Waitākere College players earned a place in the competitive rep teams. Congratulations to the four Waitākere College players who finished in the top 6 teams and qualified for Nationals! Mahonri Schwalger (WWABI Green U18), Josiah Skeen (WWABI Black U18), Adia Skeen (WWABI U16) and Trinity Jane George (WWABI U16). Josiah and Mahonri are both in our U19 boy's team. Adia and Trinity are both in our Junior Girls team.

We can't wait to see you shine at Nationals!
