Having fun and celebrating diversity were the goals of students attending the Rainbow Rangatahi Sports Day last Friday. This fun sports event for high school students was held as part of the inaugural New Zealand Rainbow Games. Seven students from Waitākere College joined students from across Auckland, and as far away as Tauranga, to participate in multisport, indoor bowls, e-sports and Zumba. The highlight was a dress-up drag race hosted by Ru Paul’s Drag Race competitor Anita Wiglet. There was some hot competition but great teamwork gained us second place.
Students were also excited to watch some of the other Rainbow Games events. They got to meet Waitākere College Board of Trustees Member, Tara Boreham, who was competing in Roller Derby.
And a huge congratulations to Matua Troy Bond who won the silver medal for competitive Ten Pin Bowling. Ka rawe, Matua!
