The Year 12 Service Academy embarked on an intensive two-week journey at RNZAF Base Auckland, immersing themselves in the Service Academy Induction Course. From predawn to late evening, their days began at 5:30 am and concluded at 9:00 pm, fostering discipline and resilience among the students. A notable aspect of the course was the absence of cell phones, challenging students to adapt and thrive without constant digital connection.
Throughout the program, students gained insights into the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and explored potential pathways to enlistment, aligning their academic pursuits with practical experiences. With a collective aim to attain 18 NCEA Level 2 credits, each student navigated through rigorous training and educational modules.
Among the memorable highlights were the exhilarating 5.3km cross-country run and engaging visits to various Airforce Units stationed at the base. Run by the team at the Youth Development Unit, an integral part of the NZDF, the course not only provided academic credits but also instilled essential life skills and a deeper understanding of service.
As the curtains drew on this transformative experience, the Year 12 Service Academy emerged with newfound resilience, camaraderie, and a profound appreciation for the opportunities afforded by the NZDF.
