Celebrating Matariki early this year due to the holidays.
Ngā mihi ki a koutou e te whānau e whakanuia ana a Matariki i tēnei tau. Ko te tumanako ka whai hua kua pā mai ngā whetū o Te Iwa a Matariki i te wā nei.
Wow, a busy week at Waitākere College for us all. This year we celebrated Matariki a bit earlier due to the holidays.
On Monday we began the week with an Inter-House Basketball shooting competition organized by 9Te Reo Rangatira. Whainga 1: was to shoot as many hoops as you could in ten minutes. Whainga 2: Each house MUST have 3 teachers playing.
Congratulations 1st Mātauranga, 2nd Manawanui, and 3rd Aroha houses respectively.
Wednesday was Matariki Breakfast in the Staffroom shared by staff. The buzz of preparations and music created an ambience, and the laughter and chatter of the morning created a warm and relaxed atmosphere for everyone. A nice way to begin the day and an even better way to come together as staff after a very busy term.
On Thursday the student became the teacher when Year 11 student Taipua Kipa taught staff to make harakeke stars in the Whare.
Friday the departments created their own Matariki Flags which were displayed in the Staffroom.
The Tik Tok House Competition also (fingers crossed the weather holds out) see you all there,
Special thanks to Kendra Sakaria, Gabby Martin, Te Awatea Lemon, Zantac Shortland, Kaiya Hendrix-Nepia, Teia Kahukura Peihopa-Watson, Enuka Te Keepa Prime, Taipua Kipa, Natalia Royal, Bella Frost, Ocean Kohere-Armstrong, Nare Abraham, Te Rito Rūmaki 9-11, Te Reo Māori 9-13
