Year 9 Student Adria Gawn started playing women's AFL for the Waitākere Magpies this year as a 13-year-old playing with and against women, she is the only teenager playing in the team and the youngest player in the women's league, they just finished an unbeaten season by winning the premiership on Saturday.
At the Magpies Prize-Giving, she won Rookie Of The Year and placed 2nd in the team-voted Player Of The Year Award.
Waitākere Magpies said of Adria "At the age of 13, Adria had proven herself as the premier ruck woman in the competition. Every game she played she got better and sees no sign of stopping as she will look to be an elite and integral part of the Magpies for many years to come."
Adria was also named in the inaugural AAFLW team of the year!
Not only a promising AFL star, Adria also represents Waitākere College in netball in the Premier Netball Team as well as the 9a Top Netball Team.
As defensive captain of 9a Adria led the team, with the help of two other captains, to take out the competition coming first place in the Year 9 A Grade competition. In the prems netball, they came third, losing one game throughout the season, in the West Auckland secondary school competition. The team then went on to compete in the upper north island secondary school competition placing 8th out of all schools in the North Island.
